angel number by name
Your angel number by name is the number your full name adds up to, letter by letter, on the Pythagorean chart. Type yours below and Angel Clock works it out the standard way: A is 1, B is 2 and so on to I, 9, with J starting again at 1; each name is reduced on its own, then the names are added, with 11, 22 and 33 kept whole — and every step is shown.
5 · the wanderer
Ella: 5 + 3 + 3 + 1 = 12 → 1 + 2 = 3 Rose: 9 + 6 + 1 + 5 = 21 → 2 + 1 = 3 Brooks: 2 + 9 + 6 + 6 + 2 + 1 = 26 → 2 + 6 = 8 3 + 3 + 8 = 14 → 1 + 4 = 5
Every name you were given at birth, in Latin letters. Accents are fine.
For example, Ella Rose Brooks adds up to 5 — the wanderer. Angel Clock writes 5 as 555 and reads 555 as change.
- Ella: E 5, L 3, L 3, A 1 — 12, reduced to 3.
- Rose: R 9, O 6, S 1, E 5 — 21, reduced to 3.
- Brooks: B 2, R 9, O 6, O 6, K 2, S 1 — 26, reduced to 8.
- Together: 3 + 3 + 8 = 14 → 1 + 4 = 5 · the wanderer.
- Angel number: 555 · Change.
- Every letter at once: 12 + 21 + 26 = 59 → 5 + 9 = 14 → 1 + 4 = 5, the same answer.
Stays on your device. The name never leaves this page — no account, nothing sent, nothing stored.
How a name becomes a number
This is the whole method, in the order the box follows it, so you can check any answer with a pen.
- Write the full name. Every name you were given at birth, middle names included. First, middle and last are each a name of their own.
- Turn each letter into a number. The chart below runs the alphabet through 1 to 9 in order: A to I are 1 to 9, J to R start again at 1, and so do S to Z. Y is 7 wherever it stands.
- Reduce each name on its own. Add its letters, then add the digits of the total until one is left — except at 11, 22 and 33, which are kept whole. Ella is 5 + 3 + 3 + 1 = 12, and 1 + 2 = 3.
- Add the names and reduce once more, keeping 11, 22 and 33. Ella Rose Brooks is 3 + 3 + 8 = 14, and then 5.
- Read it the way Angel Clock writes it. 1 to 9 are written as a repeating trio, so 5 is 555; the master numbers stay themselves, 11, 22 and 33.
It is the same rule Angel Clock’s angel number calculator applies to a birthday, where the month, the day and the year are reduced before they are added. Numerology calls the name’s figure the expression or destiny number, so this box is also a name numerology calculator, on the Pythagorean chart.
Accents come off before counting: é is read as e, ñ as n, and the few letters with nothing to take off are spelled out, ß as ss, æ as ae, ø as o. A hyphen or an apostrophe keeps a name in one piece (Mary-Jane, O’Brien), and a space starts the next. Letters outside A to Z have no place on this chart, so the box asks for the Latin spelling instead of guessing.
The letter chart
This is the Pythagorean chart as L. Dow Balliett printed it in 1908, when she told readers to “divide the alphabet into nine parts.” Each row is one number; the last column is the page where Angel Clock reads it.
| Number | Letters | Page and word |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | A · J · S | 111 · Beginnings |
| 2 | B · K · T | 222 · Alignment |
| 3 | C · L · U | 333 · Support |
| 4 | D · M · V | 444 · Protection |
| 5 | E · N · W | 555 · Change |
| 6 | F · O · X | 666 · Balance |
| 7 | G · P · Y | 777 · Luck |
| 8 | H · Q · Z | 888 · Abundance |
| 9 | I · R | 999 · Release |
Three names, worked
Each answer below is word for word what the box at the top gives. The first keeps a master number, the second has an accent and is the name to test any other calculator with, and the third has a hyphen, an apostrophe and a Y.
Leah Ann Moore
Leah Ann Moore adds up to 22 — the world, a master number kept whole. Angel Clock reads 22 at 22:22, as twin flame.
- Leah: L 3, E 5, A 1, H 8 — 17, reduced to 8.
- Ann: A 1, N 5, N 5 — 11, kept whole.
- Moore: M 4, O 6, O 6, R 9, E 5 — 30, reduced to 3.
- Together: 8 + 11 + 3 = 22, kept whole · the world.
- Angel number: 22:22 · Twin flame.
- Every letter at once: 17 + 11 + 30 = 58 → 5 + 8 = 13 → 1 + 3 = 4, not 22. Adding the whole name in one go is the shortcut that makes two name calculators disagree.
Zoë Lane
Zoë Lane adds up to 6 — the empress. Angel Clock writes 6 as 666 and reads 666 as balance.
- Zoë: Z 8, O 6, E 5 — 19, reduced to 1.
- Lane: L 3, A 1, N 5, E 5 — 14, reduced to 5.
- Together: 1 + 5 = 6 · the empress.
- Angel number: 666 · Balance.
- Every letter at once: 19 + 14 = 33, kept whole, not 6. Adding the whole name in one go is the shortcut that makes two name calculators disagree.
- Read as: ë as e.
Ivy-Mae O’Hara
Ivy-Mae O’Hara adds up to 1 — the first. Angel Clock writes 1 as 111 and reads 111 as beginnings.
- Ivy-Mae: I 9, V 4, Y 7, M 4, A 1, E 5 — 30, reduced to 3.
- O’Hara: O 6, H 8, A 1, R 9, A 1 — 25, reduced to 7.
- Together: 3 + 7 = 10 → 1 + 0 = 1 · the first.
- Angel number: 111 · Beginnings.
- Every letter at once: 30 + 25 = 55 → 5 + 5 = 10 → 1 + 0 = 1, the same answer.
- One name: a hyphen, an apostrophe or a dot joins a name; a space starts a new one.
Name by name, or every letter at once
Many name calculators add every letter of the full name in one go. The final digit often comes out the same, but the master numbers do not: adding all the letters at once makes an 11, 22 or 33 that no single name holds, and loses one that a name did hold. Reducing each name first is the method numerology wrote down, and Angel Clock’s calculator follows the same rule for a birth date.
Test any name calculator with Zoë Lane. Zoë is 8 + 6 + 5 = 19, which reduces to 1, and Lane is 3 + 1 + 5 + 5 = 14, which reduces to 5, so name by name it comes to 1 + 5 = 6. Added every letter at once, 19 + 14 = 33. A calculator that hands Zoë Lane a 33 is adding everything at once. It cuts the other way too: Leah Ann Moore keeps 22 name by name and falls to 4 all at once.
Calculators that count A to Z as 1 to 26 — Z as 26 — are a different matter. Reduced all the way down to one digit, their count lands on the same digit as this chart, because a letter’s place and its chart value differ by a multiple of nine. The two can part only where 11, 22 or 33 is kept along the way.
What is my angel number by name?
It is the number your full birth name adds up to on the Pythagorean letter chart, reduced to one digit or to 11, 22 or 33, which are kept whole. Type the name into the box at the top and Angel Clock reduces each name, then adds them: Ella Rose Brooks is 3 + 3 + 8 = 14, and 1 + 4 = 5, which Angel Clock writes as 555. Numerology calls the same figure the expression or destiny number.
Pythagorean or Chaldean?
Angel Clock uses the Pythagorean chart, the alphabet run through 1 to 9 in order, the same system as its date calculator. The Chaldean chart groups the letters differently: A, I, J, Q and Y are 1; B, K and R are 2; C, G, L and S are 3; D, M and T are 4; E, H, N and X are 5; U, V and W are 6; O and Z are 7; F and P are 8, and no letter is 9. One name can land on a different number under each, so this page keeps to one chart and shows it.
Birth name or the name I use?
Both, for different things. L. Dow Balliett, whose books of 1908 onward set out this chart, read the names a person was given at birth, with the mother’s maiden name added, for what that person is capable of, and the name as it is signed today for what they are doing now; numerologists still start from the full birth name. Angel Clock’s box takes either, so type both and compare.
Can I combine my name and my birthday?
Angel Clock keeps them as two numbers, side by side. The birth date gives the number on the angel number calculator; the name gives this one. Balliett read them the same way, the birth date for the path a person chose and the name for what they do with it, and she compared the two rather than adding them.
What about accents, like é, ñ or ø?
Angel Clock reads an accented letter as its plain letter — é as e, ñ as n, ü as u — and spells out the few with nothing to take off: ß as ss, æ as ae, ø as o. The answer lists every letter it read that way. Letters outside A to Z, such as Cyrillic or Chinese, have no place on this chart, so the box asks for the Latin spelling rather than guess.
Is there an angel number name chart?
The letter chart above is the whole of it: nine rows, with A, J and S in the first and I and R in the ninth. Angel Clock adds one column, the page where each number is read, from 111 · Beginnings to 999 · Release.
Where to go from here
The number from your birth date is on the angel number calculator, and any number you keep seeing is on the angel number lookup. Why 11, 22 and 33 are kept whole is on master numbers, and every number with a page of its own is on angel numbers.
This page adds up letters by a published chart and quotes Angel Clock’s own words for the result. Angel numbers carry cultural meanings, not predictions, and nothing here is medical, psychological, financial or legal advice.
